CO– is led by Maya Tacon and Emma Lawes: dance artists, educators and facilitators who together curate experiences in Seattle.

(SHE/HER) - CO– PRODUCER, CURATOR, AND PERFORMER

Emma Lawes (she/her) is a dancer, educator and producer based between Los Angeles and Seattle. Currently, she is in creation processes with Keyes Wiley (SEA) and Sean Ardor (CA) to premiere in 2025/2026. She is on faculty at Orange County School of the Arts and California School of the Arts SGV, and has produced work with G.U.M. Collective, zoe | juniper, and through her ongoing collaborative project with Maya Tacon, CO-. She has presented her own work at Base: Experimental Arts + Space, 10 Degrees Arts + Events, Mutuus Studio and Atwater Village Theater. She is a graduate of the University of the Arts with a BFA in Dance Performance under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield.

(SHE/HER) - CO– PRODUCER, CURATOR, AND PERFORMER

Maya Tacon (she/her) was born and raised in New York and graduated with honors from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance, with a semester abroad at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan. Since transplanting to Seattle, Maya has performed for artists such as Cameo Lethem, Jordan Macintosh-Hougham, Michelle Miller, Andy McShea, Joseph Hernandez, Alice Gosti, and acted as Rehearsal Director for Lavinia Vago. Maya is one half of CO-, a collaborative entity that curates and produces dance events, and she teaches for the worldwide family of Dance Church ®. Maya also holds a STOTT Pilates certification, and is deeply passionate about facilitating an empowering practice for professional movers and non-dancers alike.

MISSION STATEMENT

CO- is a dance production engine that serves as an incubator for new performance concepts. With a vision for a more equitable creative economy, CO- connects, inspires, and supports emerging and mid-career Seattle dancers in developing and sharing their art. CO- highlights artists from many circles of the Seattle dance scene to diversify audiences and the artists they support. Led by two working dance artists who are deeply integrated in the Seattle dance community, CO-’s mission is to listen deeply and respond in real time to the needs of artists in an ever shifting creative landscape.

Woven from personal and shared histories, Of Us by Jenna Eady and Tariq Mitri is a testament to Palestinian resilience and spirit and a reflection of the long standing connection between its creators. Through movement and the abstraction of storytelling, this work honors the beauty of Palestinian existence—its joys and tensions, its struggles and truths—illuminating an intricate and dependent dance on collective identity.
